Our Churches‎ > ‎

Collinwood Road United Reformed

We cannot boast of fine buildings or a large congregation, outstanding musical resources or a wide range of church activities. We are a small church on one of Oxford's outlying estates, but we are full of life and ready to take on new challenges. Above all, we are sure God wants us to stay here on the Risinghurst estate to proclaim and embody the Gospel here.

Glib answers and unchallengeable certainties are not our style; we place a great deal of value in people feeling free to ask questions. Honest doubt, wrestling with God, and a patient waiting on the Spirit for understanding are more likely than proof-texts to lead to a firm and confident faith. Above all we believe that faith in Christ is about relationship, not signing on the dotted line. But we also believe that Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection has changed everything, and that decision for Christ is an urgent and pressing challenge for us all.

On the 1st Sunday of each month we meet in the church hall at 10.00 a.m. for all-age worship. This is participative, colourful, but also committed to taking the Bible seriously and wrestling with the text. Our aim is that this service should have something for you, whether you are 5 years old or 95.

On the other Sundays of the month we worship in the church sanctuary at 9.30 a.m. The 2nd Sunday is communion, followed by Bible study and a bring-and-share lunch. On the 3rd Sunday we have junior church.
