Chair's report to the CTH AGM - Thursday 22 May 2014

I’d like to begin by thanking all the Church reps. on the committee for all their support over the past year and to the members of the congregations who play their part in sharing the good news of the gospel with our community.  The various ecumenical activities listed below give us all an opportunity to thank God for the many blessings we have received.

July 2013 – The Fun Day in Bury Knowle Park continues to be our major outreach event to the local community and this year more people attended and more Churches were involved on the day.  We are grateful to the Fun Day Committee for their work in overseeing the event and for keeping us informed of progress.

September 2013 - We held a Songs of Praise service at All Saint’s Church on the theme of Saints.  A small number of Churches took part & the service was an uplifting one.  Thanks to Colin Openshaw for arranging the service.  Colin is standing down from his responsibilities & the Committee decided not to hold another Songs of Praise service for the time being.

December 2013 – We are grateful to Ian Alexander, Nick Jackson, school staff & stewards who helped with organising the Advent Pageant & to All Saint’s Church who hosted the closing worship.  Nick has put forward some ideas for a new kind of Advent event in 2014 with the aim of involving more congregations as well as community groups.  The Committee is working with him on this project.

January 2014 – Thanks to St Andrew’s Church who hosted the service to mark the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.  Good numbers attended & we were delighted to have Bridget Walker as our guest speaker.

March / April 2014 – This year we ran Lent groups using the material produced by York courses.  The groups were held in McMaster House & Emden House and attracted a mixture of people from different Churches.  Numbers attending were modest but people appreciated meeting together for study and discussion.

Our regular events continue.  Priory Prayers on a monthly basis provide an opportunity to support one another in prayer and worship.  We are grateful to Sister Marie Ann for her hospitality.

The Christmas & Easter cards are important means of communicating the gospel &  we have been blessed with the help of graphic designers Lisa Hill & Ruth Gass.  Thanks to Ian Alexander for overseeing arrangements.  He has made it known that he wishes to hand over the organisation of the cards to someone else in 2015.

We are grateful to Christine Tucker who maintains our website.  With her regular reports at meetings we are beginning to build up a picture of its use.

The REInspired project involving a team of volunteers from various Churches goes from strength to strength.  Over the last few months, Nick Jackson has acted as the leader of the sessions in schools & Rev. Maggie Thorne continues to co-ordinate the volunteer team and liaise with the school staff.  There has been very positive feedback from schools and it’s great fun being part of the team.

As always, we need to be open to the leading of God’s Spirit as we explore ways in which to share the good news of Christ with our local community and we trust God for the year ahead.
