So what do they do?
They make woolly goods for 2 charities (see below); using donated needles and yarn to make blankets, jumpers, hats, gloves, scarves and fiddle muffs (for people with dementia). And they have free patterns. The completed goods are sent to 2 charities: one for refugees in Syria (hihfad.org) and knitforpeace.org.uk. This latter group sends goods to, and promotes knitting groups in, hospitals, women’s refuges, refugee drop-in centres, prisons, community groups, and hospices as well as to developing countries and refugee camps. They ask for a donation of between 50p and £1 to cover the cost of hiring the room each time, and also to go towards the cost of posting the woolly goods to the 2 charities. They welcome people who would like to knit and crochet in company, as well as people who would like to contribute from afar or occasionally. They also welcome donations of needles and yarn (any colours except white or pale pastels please). So if you are clearing out your cupboard and want to donate yarn & needles to a good cause contact Sally at sharedknitting@gmail.com or 01865 738942.
